Nomad Tracking Card Pro vs AirTag 2: Which Tracker Is Better?
Choose the slim Nomad Tracking Card Pro for a wallet or passport holder. AirTag 2 is better for keys, luggage, and bags where Precision Finding matters.
Quick Take
- Choose the Nomad Tracking Card Pro for a slim wallet or passport holder. Its 2.5mm card shape avoids the hard bulge of an 8mm-thick AirTag.
- Choose AirTag 2 for keys, luggage, and bags. Its second-generation UWB chip enables Precision Finding, and its CR2032 battery is user-replaceable.

The choice between the Nomad Tracking Card Pro and AirTag 2 comes down to where the tracker will live. Apple calls the second model AirTag (2nd generation), but AirTag 2 is the simpler name. Buy the Nomad for a wallet or passport holder. Buy AirTag 2 for keys, luggage, a backpack, or any item where close-range finding matters.
Both use Apple's Find My network, so either can report its location through nearby Apple devices. AirTag 2 adds second-generation Ultra Wideband and Precision Finding, which can guide you toward the tracker with direction and distance. The Nomad card does not support Precision Finding, but it is far easier to carry in a slim wallet.
Nomad Is the Wallet Tracker
The Tracking Card Pro measures 85 × 54 × 2.5mm. AirTag 2 is 31.9mm across and 8mm thick. That extra 5.5mm is easy to feel in a wallet, even before adding a holder.
Nomad's flat shape slides into a card slot or passport holder without creating a round pressure point. It weighs 15g, slightly more than AirTag 2 at 11.8g, but thickness matters more than those 3.2g in a wallet.
Power is also handled differently. The Tracking Card Pro recharges on a Qi or MagSafe charger and lasts up to 16 months per charge. AirTag 2 uses a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell. Choose the maintenance style you prefer: occasional wireless charging or swapping a common battery.
The tradeoff is finding precision. Nomad says third-party Find My trackers do not receive Apple's Ultra Wideband support, so the card can show its location and play a sound but cannot provide AirTag-style directional guidance.

AirTag 2 Is Better When You Need to Find the Exact Spot
AirTag 2 is the stronger tracker once thickness stops mattering. Its second-generation Ultra Wideband chip enables expanded Precision Finding on compatible iPhones, using visual, audio, and haptic guidance to lead you to the tag. Apple says its Precision Finding range is up to 50 percent farther than the original AirTag, and the updated speaker is 50 percent louder.
That makes AirTag 2 a better fit for keys in a room, a bag in an overhead bin, or luggage sitting among similar cases. The replaceable battery also suits gear that stays packed for long stretches: carry a CR2032 or replace it when Find My reports that it is low.
The round body is not wallet-friendly, and attaching it to keys requires a holder. But the second-generation model retains the original AirTag's dimensions, so existing AirTag accessories remain compatible.
Which Tracker Should You Buy?
Buy the Nomad Tracking Card Pro for a slim wallet or passport holder. Its card shape solves the problem AirTag cannot, and its rechargeable battery avoids disposable coin cells.
Buy AirTag 2 for keys, checked luggage, backpacks, camera bags, and tech pouches. Precision Finding is more valuable than a thin profile in those places, especially when you know the item is nearby but cannot see it.
If you want one of each, that is the sensible split: Nomad in your wallet, AirTag 2 on or inside everything else.
Our recommendation: Nomad Tracking Card Pro for wallets; AirTag 2 for luggage, keys, and bags.
