AirFly Pro 2 vs AirFly Pro: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

The AirFly Pro 2 is the better buy, but most original AirFly Pro owners do not need to upgrade. Both models connect wireless headphones to an airplane screen, pair with two sets of headphones, run for more than 25 hours, and work as either a Bluetooth transmitter or receiver.

The Pro 2 improves the experience rather than changing the basic job. It adds dedicated pairing controls, onboard volume and mute buttons, Bluetooth 5.3 for faster pairing, a battery indicator, and broader codec support that includes AAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive.

Those are worthwhile upgrades if you are buying an AirFly now. The clearer controls make pairing two headphones less fiddly in an airplane seat, while the newer Bluetooth hardware and codec support make the Pro 2 the more capable long-term choice.

If you already own the original Pro, keep it unless charging or pairing regularly annoys you. Its 25+ hour battery, dual-headphone support, and receiver mode still cover the features that matter most in flight. Better codecs are welcome, but they are not a strong enough reason by themselves to replace a working adapter used mainly with seatback entertainment.

Price can change the answer too. The Pro 2 is the safer full-price purchase. The older Pro becomes appealing when it is meaningfully cheaper, especially for someone who wants shared listening without paying for the newer controls and wireless hardware.

The short answer: buy the AirFly Pro 2 if you are starting fresh. Keep the AirFly Pro if you already have one. Upgrade only if simpler controls, faster pairing, or better codec support solve a problem you actually notice.
