This Tiny Magnetic SSD Makes a Lot of Sense for iPhone Creators in 2026

The Lexar ES5 Magnetic Portable SSD is easy to understand. It is small, it is fast enough, and it makes more sense than a normal portable SSD if you mostly shoot on a phone.

Lexar rates it for up to 2000MB/s read and 2000MB/s write over USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, which is plenty for the kind of iPhone creator workflow this is built around. More importantly, it is shaped to sit neatly on the back of a phone instead of hanging off it like a weird little storage dongle.

That is the whole pitch here. If you shoot a lot of mobile video and want a cleaner setup for external recording, the ES5 is a smart idea. Lexar also gives it IP65 protection, 3-meter drop resistance, and a magnetic design with an extra ring for devices that do not already support MagSafe.

It is still compact enough to travel with easily at 3.34 x 2.12 x 0.43 inches, but it is not the smallest SSD in Lexar's lineup. For most people, I would still point to the Lexar Go instead. The ES5 is the one to buy if you specifically want the phone-first design. Otherwise, the Go is still the better default TrekSavvy recommendation.

Bottom line: The Lexar ES5 Magnetic Portable SSD is a good fit for content creators in 2026 because it is small, fast enough, and clearly built around shooting from a phone. But for most people, the Lexar Go is still the simpler buy.
